Rain on the Way

THE Lower Hunter is bracing for severe weather, which according to Helen Kirkup at the Bureau of Meteorology predicts will bring some rain to the Upper Hunter from Wednesday until Friday.

“There is a tough later today deepening off the coast around the Newcastle area and there will be deep showers coming in and obviously when that happens they slowly creep up through the Hunter,” said Ms Kirkup.

“It should continue all day Wednesday and into Thursday, so in the Upper Hunter you should get rain over a three day period,” she said.

“On Wednesday the Upper Hunter could broadly see 10 to 24 mls, as far west as Scone, further to the east into the Barrington they could see some very high totals up into 200mls,” she said.

“On Thursday we are probably looking at 10 to 15 mls, that system will ease and move further north, but on Friday you might still see 10mls as it eases off during the day,” she said.

“There is also a second factor happening which is inland instability where we may see thunderstorms develop, which will include the area of the Upper Hunter, Tamworth and up into Moree, but again thunderstorms are very localised instead of the wide spread showers which will be coming from the coast,” Helen Kirkup said.
