IN the past 24 hours some parts of the Upper Hunter received more than 50 percent of the average December rainfall and more storms are possible later today.

The Bureau of Meteorology said the system of storms which moved through the region last night brought totals of 30 to 50 mls and produced winds in Merriwa of more than 113 kilometres an hour.

The trough feature is slowly moving out and will be replaced with a high pressure ridge which will hang around until Sunday, but becoming less intense.

Christmas and Boxing Day will be fine conditions with temperatures increasing again, after dropping during the last couple of days.

  • Aberdeen: 5.6ml
  • Cassilis: 12ml
  • Merriwa: 51ml
  • Murrurundi: 33ml
  • Scone: 46ml
