THE first Scone Photographic Competition, to open tonight, has drawn approximately 80 entries, which organiser Roger Skinner said was a great start.

“The Muswellbrook Photographic Prize they started off with 44 entries and there was only $400 first prize, but for this competition we have 77 entries and $1,000 first prize so hopefully it will build into a strong competition also,” said Mr Skinner.

“We have entries from the Sunshine Coast to the north and south to Ballarat, so there are a few out of the Valley operators,” he laughed.

Tonight also marks the 25th anniversary of the Scone Arts and Crafts Members exhibition and Muriel King who was part of the first exhibition will do the official opening.

“It’s to showcase what our region can do as opposed to having too much from elsewhere and there are all the different groups who meet at the hall there are painters, spinners, weaving, pottery and other arts and crafts so it is nice to showcase our region and encourage other people to become members and be involved,” said Ms Joanne Van Hees.

There are approximately 200 paintings, 150 ceramics and a display from spinning, weaving and crocheting.

  • WHEN: 6:30pm, Friday, May 5.
  • WHERE: Scone Arts and Crafts, Kingdon Street, Scone.
  • COST: $10 entry which includes drinks and canapes on arrival.
