Rob Taber – Independent Candidate

Rob Taber is in independent candidate based in Armidale and said it is because he is not a career politician that he would make a better representative.

“I’m not a career politician, I’ve got 43 years of business experience which I believe qualifies me to take on this election,” said Mr Taber.

“I’m originally from an agricultural background, then we bought an electrical automotive business and then started one of the very early solar retailers and installers in the northern part of New South Wales,” he said.

“I won’t be allocating preferences, a true independent should not allocate preferences.

“I’ve never belonged to a political party and it is my belief that the party political system has evolved to a point in this country where we are now dividing the nation.

A true independent has the ability to negotiate with either side of parliament providing that you remain,” he said.

By being neutral you can negotiate and when you vote for legislation you are voting for what is in the best interests of our electorate,” Rob Taber said.

RENEWABLE ENERGY

“My strength in this election is my experience in renewable energy and with 18 years experience I have the knowledge to understand how we need to move forward in providing our energy to be sustainable for the future,” said Mr Taber.

“Renewable energy will slowly wean us off coal and eventually we will scale back our reliance on coal and my feeling is that will take 50 years and if you look at the figures that have been released recently the take up of solar in New South Wales is only six percent of households and the take up is still well and truly below what is expected,” he said.

“My belief is as we wean ourselves away from coal the renewable energy industry will grow stronger and we have to be clever in regional areas that we develop those products in regional areas.

“I don’t think we should be opening up new mines, but to maintain and continue to operate the present mining will certainly carry on for many years supporting local jobs,” Rob Taber said.

ABATTOIR

“Jobs can be created with modern abattoirs, I mean forget the old one let’s build a new one and have a much stronger future,” said Mr Taber.

“A modern abattoir today is a totally different facility to abattoirs of the past,” he said.

“It appears to me you can’t retrofit an abattoir because a new abattoir would be mainly run using renewable energy such as using bio-digesters and bio-gas to produce electricity in the local plant which then solves a lot of environmental issues,” he said.

“We’ve found with our abattoir proposal in Armidale has been driven by the local community and a way to get new jobs for Armidale,” Rob Taber said.
