Saddle Up in Wingen

THERE are not many places in the Scone area where people can go for a trail ride, but this weekend the first Wingen horse ride will be held to help raise money for the Wingen Sports Ground and Community Hall.

Jane Kennedy, who is organising the ride said more than 80 riders are already registered and are hoping for a few more.

“We have 87 riders so far and they are not all locals, many are travelling from Sydney, Armidale, Newcastle and Tamworth,” said Ms Kennedy.

“It’s a 30 kilometre ride which will go across the Walmsley’s, our place and the Crockers,” she said.

“Some of the views on the ride are just amazing,” she said.

“Les Spinks came up with the idea and if it is a success we think we will hold the ride a few times a year,” she said.

“There is camping available on the Friday night and we are encouraging people to come up to the pub to get the whole community involved in the event and the Joker Draw which is up to $1,250 will be drawn that night with the proceeds going to the grounds,” she said.

“On Saturday night we will have a function in the hall, with music, an auction, lolly guessing competition, lucky door prize and the major Christmas raffle will be on sale which includes a four night holiday in Fiji, a full day horse and carriage wine tour around Pokolbin and tickets to see the Christmas lights at the Hunter Valley Gardens; and whoever buys a book of tickets or helps sell tickets goes in the draw for tickets to Seaworld,” Jane Kennedy said.

• Dogs are not allowed on the ride, but are welcome at the camp ground.
