Her coach Robyne Smith said they were in tears after her ride.

“She nailed it!” said Ms Smith.

“By the end of the ride, I was in tears and so was her mum Jane, she couldn’t have done any better and Katrina was in tears too,” she said.

“She works hard riding multiple horses each week, she is at the stables before and after school and in the last couple of months she has been training particularly hard on the lunge without stirrups and reigns and it really showed on the day,” Robyne Smith said.

Katrina said the experience was amazing.

“It just felt perfect, it was the best I could have done,” said Ms Gorman.

“I didn’t expect to be national champion, it was very exciting,” she said.

“It teaches you so many good life lessons, being committed and being disciplined – you have to put the work in to get the results,” Katrina Gorman said.

Katrina was one of two riders selected from New South Wales to compete at the national championships, which also included riders from New Zealand.

Next Katrina will prepare for the Bathurst Royal and Sydney Royal and will also compete in several dressage events.
