Scone Golf: April 28 – May 1

THE early players had the best of the golfing conditions at Scone on Saturday, April 30 as many were in before the welcomed rain.

A good field contested the 18 Hole Stableford for the Mick Alsleben and Luck’s Meats Trophy and the final round of the 4BBB Championships.

There were three prizes distributed for each grade.

The winners of each had the best scores of the day with Russell Nicholls in C Grade leading the way with a great round of 44 points.

Steve Morse won A Grade with 38 points and Tim Smith won B Grade with 37 points. In A Grade 2nd was Justin Smart 36 points and 3rd was Ross Banks 34 points.

Phil McGuirk 37 points and Jim Elder 36 points were 2nd and 3rd in B Grade. In C Grade Mark Hayes beat Stuart Dawson for 2nd place when they both had 37 points.

Ball winners were the above players plus Geoff Barton, Michael Davidson 36, Matt Bailey, George Davidson, Ross Higham 35, Tony O’Neill 34, Kevin Thompson, Scott Lye, George Betts, David Druce, Jeff Harrington and Brad Hockley on a countback, all on 33 points.

The NTP on the 2nd /11th was won by Joel Woods with a shot to 1.67 metres whilst Geoff Ferguson won with 6.3 metres on the 8th / 17th.

The Isis Motel 4BBB Championships were decided.

In A Grade the winners were Steve Morse & Jeff Harrington 70, 73 (143) with runners up being Warren Styles & Ross Banks 71, 76 (147).

In B Grade the winners were Phil McGuirk & George Davidson 77, 76 (153) from runners up Paul Smart & David Druce 78, 79 (157).

In C Grade Kevin Thompson & Tom Thompson combined to win with 89, 92 (181) from runners up Les Cottam & Red Palmer 89, 96 (185).

In the ladies 18 Hole Stableford Lyn Banks had the round of the day to have 39 points and be the clear winner.

Balls went to Jo Brown and Yvonne Palmer.

Next Saturday May 7, the Scone RSL Group Monthly Mug will be played for as an 18 Hole Stroke / Stableford event.

Players are reminded that the 1st round of the Kevans Knockout must be played by this date as well.

In the first round of the men’s Masters Pennant the team played Merewether at home on Sunday.

This event is contested in 24 divisions and is for players over 50 years of age.

There are eight non handicap matches played, with the eighth match having a value of half a point.

In a good start to the series in Division 20 Scone had a narrow win 4 to 3 and ½.

Wins were had by Jeff Harrington 5&4; Warren Styles 1 up; Ross Banks 3&2 and Sean Constable 1 up.

The second round will be on May 15 when Scone hosts Toronto.

The Scone ladies played an 18 Hole Stableford for a Scone Sporties Trophy on Thursday April 28.

There were some fabulous scores with Sue Watts being the winner on a countback from Kathy Robinson when they both had 40 points.

39 points for Julie Leckie, 38 for Narelle Rutter and 37 for Marie Murray and June Jukes only won them a ball.

Jo Brown won the NTP on the 17th at 3.77 metres.

In two first round matches of the Peter & Marg Marshall singles knockout, June Jukes advanced by defeating Judy Carmody, and Kathy Robinson by defeating Annie Woods.

On Thursday May 5 the ladies will play the third GNSW and Monthly Medal round. It will also be the Mabel McKenzie Brooch round for Veteran players.

In round 6 of the HRDGA Pennants the team will play Singleton at Aberdeen on Monday May 2 and the final round will be played at Muswellbrook against Branxton on May 9.
