Scone Golf: Aug 11 – 14

LAST Thursday, August 11, the Scone golf ladies commenced their Club Championships for 2016 with a good field of 17.

The course was recovering from the wet, fairways were heavy and there was water in all hazards, but the course was very well prepared by the green keeper and voluntary assistance.

Julie Leckie had the round of the day with 87 and her 70 nett won the Scone RSL Group Trophy.

Sue Watts was the runner up with 74 nett and 88 gross.

NTP’s were on offer for 3 divisions on the 2nd / 11th, but only Jo Brown won one.

The ball winners were: Julie Leckie 70, Sue Watts, Sarah Brooks 74, Noreen Marshall 79, Lyn Banks, Jo Brown, Annie Woods 80 and Kathy Robinson 81.

In Division 2 Kathy Robinson had 107 to lead Noreen Marshall by one, and in Division 3 Sarah Brooks had 112 to lead Judy Carmody by 3.

Round 2 was played on Sunday August 14 in perfect conditions and the scores reflected such.

Noreen Marshall won the Scone Newsagency Trophy with a fabulous 64 nett.

Jo Brown had a very good round of 70 nett to be the runner up.

Again, only one NTP went off to Sarah Howey on the 8th / 17th.

Ball winners were: Noreen Marshall 64, Jo Brown 70, Annie Woods, Kathy Robinson 72, Judy Carmody, Ann Cameron 73, Fiona Groom 77 and Julie Leckie 78.

In the scratch events Lyn Banks had the best round of the day of 88 to leapfrog Julie Leckie and Sue Watts and subsequently lead Sue by 3.

In Division 2 Noreen Marshall’s great 94 put her 3 ahead of Kathy Robinson, whilst Judy Carmody holds an 8 shot lead from Sarah Brooks in Division 3.

Nett leaders are: Division 1: Julie Leckie 147; Jo Brown 150. Division 2: Noreen Marshall 144; Kathy Robinson 153. Division 3: Annie Woods 152; Sarah Brooks 153.

The overall best three nett scores from the starting handicaps areNoreen Marshall 144; Julie Leckie 147; Jo Brown 150.

The Club Champion and divisional scratch winners will be decided on Thursday, August 18 after the third stroke round is played for the Sue and Alan Watts Trophy.

The Jean Byrnes Salver for the best nett, and the Doris Ham veterans trophy, and divisional nett trophies will also be determined.

On Saturday the annual three person Ambrose Championship was contested.

It was good to see trophy donors Gary Leake, Bob Johnston and Chris King return to the club to congratulate the winners.

With a player required from each grade Justin Smart, Paul Smart and Jayson Eather had 66, 6 under par, to win the scratch event.

The nett winners with a score of 58 were Jake Teague, Damien Collison and Brendan King.

Ball winners were: Jake Teague, Damien Collison and Brendan King 58; Justin Smart, Paul Smart and Jayson Eather 58 1/3; Ross Banks, Matt Langan and Red Palmer 60 2/3; Graham Brown, Neil Clydsdale and Jack Tilse 61 1/3; Joel Woods, Glen Tarrant and Luke Eather 61 5/6; Jeff Harrington, Geoff Iliffe and Tony Bowd 63 1/6 countback.

The NTP’s went to David Druce 3.26 metres on the 2nd / 11th and to Jake Teague 2.58 metres 8th / 17th.

Kerry McLennan won the ladies stableford with 33 points.

On Saturday, August 20 the men will play an 18 Hole Stableford for the Stuart Dawson and Mac Dawson Trophy.

The Holden Scramble is fast approaching on Saturday, September 3.

As a members’ only event, for men and ladies, the teams need to be entered and paid for by August 20.
