ON Saturday, August 20 at Scone Golf Course the men played an 18 Hole Stableford for the Stuart and Mac Dawson Trophy.

In windy conditions Ross Banks had the best score of the day of 41 points to win A Grade.

The B Grade winner was Brad Hockley who had 35 points, whilst C Grade was won by Jack Tilse with 38 points.

The NTP’s went to Col Solway on the 2nd / 11th when he finished 3 metres from the pin.

Tim Smith did better on the 8th / 17th at 1 metre, just outside a jackpot. Balls went to: Ross Banks 41, Tim Smith, Jack Tilse 38, Lindsay Hodge 37, Andy Phelps 36, Brad Hockley, Mick Alsleben 35, Matt Langan, Damian Collison, Tony O’Neill 34, George Davidson, Col Solway 33, Justin Smart and Kevin Thompson 32 on a countback.

Saturday, August 26 will be the A. E. Shaddock Memorial Day.

Noel Kelly and Charlie Manning are the trophy donors for the 18 Hole Individual and 2B Stableford.

Last Saturday five Scone ladies played in the ladies Murrurundi Open on a windy and cool day.

As usual all players enjoyed the country hospitality and a different game of golf on the sand greens.

Kerry McLennan and Lyn Banks enjoyed the day even more so as they finished runners up in the scratch event by a shot to Newcastle Golf Club pair Jill Blenkey and Jenny Thompson.

In the social Ambrose on Sunday, August 21, Clayton Rogers, Scott Reid, Ross and Lyn Banks combined well to have 6 under par and 27 & ¾ nett to be the winners.

The next social event will be on Sunday September 11 at 2pm.

Ladies Club Championships

Scone Ladies Golf Campionships: Judy Camody 3 winner, Lyn Banks Club Champion, Jule Leckie nett winner and Norreen Marshall division2 and veterans winner.

On Thursday, August 18 Lyn Banks won her sixth consecutive Scone Golf Club Championship.

In perfect golfing conditions Lyn extended her lead to finish 8 shots ahead of runner up Julie Leckie.

In Division 2 Noreen Marshall won her first championship in this division by also enhancing her lead over Kathy Robinson who was runner up. Judy Carmody won her second Division 3 championship in a row by 5 shots to runner up Sarah Brooks.

In very closely contested nett events, Julie Leckie won the Jean Byrnes Salver for the best nett in the championships from the starting handicap.

She had 221 to finish one shot ahead of both Noreen Marshall and Sarah Brooks, who were winners of their divisions.

Noreen also won the Doris Ham Memorial Veterans’ Trophy for the best nett on daily aggregates.

Presentations were made to the winners who also received flowers generously donated by Club Patron Elizabeth Kevans, and they will receive formal recognition at the annual combined Presentation Night on December 3.

Each of the daily winners for the three rounds will also receive their prizes then.

The course was in fine condition given that it was unplayable with rain two weeks prior.

Praise was given to green keeper Adam Russell for his efforts to present the course for the major event, and thanks was extended to all the volunteers who assist him.

In the daily event, an 18 Hole Stroke for the Sue and Alan Watts Trophy, Sarah Brooks had a great round of 70 nett to be the winner.

Gael Holland narrowly edged out Kerry McLennan on a countback for runner up when they both had 71 nett.

Balls went to those players plus Pam Manning 72 and Fiona Groom 75 nett.

Three divisions of NTP’s on the 2nd /11th went off to Lyn Banks 4.37m, Fiona Groom 4.84m and Annie Woods.

On Thursday, August 25 the ladies will play the GNSW 4BBB Par event for the Ann Cameron and Cheryl Clydsdale Trophy.

There will be an individual in conjunction for the Gael Holland Trophy.
