Scone Golf: Feb 22 – 27

On Saturday, February 25 the Scone golfers played an 18 Hole Stableford for Simon Groom’s Trophy.

The morning players had the better of the conditions as the wind got up strongly in the afternoon.

The winner was Mark Hayes who had 37 points.

The runner up was Geoff Barton on 36 points, whilst third went to Alan Wood who had 35 points to win on a countback.

The NTP on the 2nd / 11th was won by Sean Constable 2.48 metres and on the 8th / 17th by Justin Smart 3.2 metres.

Ball went to Mark Hayes 37, Geoff Barton 36, Alan Wood, Les Cottam, Mick Alsleben 35, Paul Smart 34, Tony Pringle, Jeff Harrington, Andy Thrift, Mick Reynolds and Warren Styles all on 33 points.

It was also the final round of the Summer Shield.

Winner George Campbell had rounds of 42, 38, 32 for 112 to beat David Druce by 2 points.

In the ladies event Lyn Banks was the winner with 36 points and balls went to Kerry McLennan 35 and Yvonne Palmer 31 points.

On Saturday, March 4 the Scone RSL Group Monthly Mug will be played for and it is also round 1 of the Captain’s Trophy.

In men’s senior pennants the team played Cypress Lakes at Dungog on February 26 but could only manage a win to David Druce and Geoff Ferguson 3 and 1.

On Sunday, March 5 the team plays Denman at Murrurundi.

For the first 18 hole event of the Scone ladies golf season most of the ladies headed out early on Thursday, February 23.

The winners of the Mystery 2 Ball Stableford were Annie Woods and Joan Shaw who had 44 points.

Annie had a fine round with 37 points.

The individual winner was Fiona Groom who beat the trophy donor Lyn Banks on a countback when they both had 36 points.

Balls went to Annie, Fiona, Lyn, Pam Manning 33, and Kathy Robinson 29.

The NTP on the 17th went untouched.

On Thursday, March 2 the ladies will play for the first of the Melanie’s Jewellers Trophies for the first Monthly Medal and round 1 of the Golf NSW Medal.

This will be an 18 Hole Stroke / Stableford with the normal start time scheduled as 8 for 8.30am.

The ladies started the Hunter River District Pennants on Monday February 27 against Cessnock at Hunter Valley Golf and Country Club with a convincing win 5 ½ to ½.

Lyn Banks and Julie Leckie both won 2 and 1 in the scratch matches.

In the handicap matches all were giving shots.

Kerry McLennan had a square and Pam Manning won 2 and 1 in their first pennant games for the club.

Kathy Robinson and Narelle Rutter both ground out wins 1 up to complete the great start to the season.

The next round is at Singleton against The Vintage on Monday, March 6.

In the Wednesday 9 Hole Stableford Red Tee Challenge Guy Wilkinson appreciated play off the reds with a great score of 30 points to be in first place.

Scott Reid and Sam Casson had 27 points each to round out the prizes.

In the social 9 Hole 4 Person Ambrose on Sunday February 26 the winners were Sean Constable, Brad Hockley, Brenan Reeves and Scott Reid who had 5 under which included an eagle on the 6th.

This gave them a nett score of 28 and 7/16ths.

The next event open to golfers and non-golfers is on Sunday, March 26.
