Scone Golf Report: Ladies Club Championships

THE Scone Golf Club ladies championships have concluded with round three played on Thursday, July 27. Lyn Banks won her seventh consecutive championship by 6 shots to runner up Julie Leckie. In Division 2, Pam Manning played consistent golf to finish 5 shots ahead of runner up Trish Dunnill. Annie Woods was the clear winner in Division 3 from runner up Yvonne Palmer. Julie Leckie won the Jean Byrnes Salver for the second year in a row having the best nett of 221 from the starting handicap. In both Division 2 and 3, Pam Manning and Annie Woods did the double winning the nett prizes on 228 and 225 respectively. Julie Leckie also won the Doris Ham Memorial Veteran’s Trophy for the best nett on daily aggregate scores.

In a pleasant tradition the winners were presented with flowers from Club Patron Elizabeth Kevans, and the history laden cups and shields. Official presentations to the champions and nett winners will occur at the annual combined Presentation Night. Also to be presented will be prizes for the daily winners of each round, these being, Round 1 Scone RSL Group Trophy – Annie Woods, Round 2 Scone Newsagency Trophy – Jo Brown and Round 3 Sue and Alan Watts Trophy – Julie Leckie.

Conditions were the best of the three days on the last round which was played for the Sue and Alan Watts Trophy. Julie Leckie had a fine finishing round of 72 nett to be the winner. This was one ahead of a number of players with Kellie Tarrant being the runner up on a countback.  Balls went to these two players and June Jukes, Narelle Rutter 73, Noreen Marshall and Pam Manning 77 on a countback from Judy Carmody. To top off a good day Julie Leckie also won the NTP on the 17th.

On Thursday, August 3, the ladies will play an 18 Hole Stroke / Stableford for the 6th GNSW Medal and Monthly Medal for the Melanie’s Jewellers Trophy. A good contingent of five players will attend the Singleton Open Day on Tuesday, August 1.
