ON Thursday, March 1 the Scone lady golfers played an 18 Hole Stroke for the first Monthly Medal and Golf NSW Medal round. In heavy conditions at the Muswellbrook Golf Course, Lyn Banks was the winner of the Melanie’s Jewellers Trophy with 73 nett. Annie Woods was next best with 74 nett.

On Thursday, March 8, an 18 Hole Stableford for a club trophy will be played at Aberdeen.

In the Hunter River District Men’s Senior Pennant the Scone team had a great win over Dungog at Singleton 3 matches to nil when all of the pairs combined well. The results on March 4 were Charlie Manning and Geoff Ferguson 5&3; George Campbell and George Davidson 2 and 1 and Tom Thompson and Ross Banks 6 and 5.

In Round 4 on Sunday, March 11 the team will travel to Dungog to play Paterson. As equal leaders in their division, another win would put them in a good position with one round to play. The team will be Andy Thrift and George Campbell, Ross Banks and Geoff Ferguson and Mick Alsleben and Red Palmer.

In the ladies pennant series round 2 was played on Monday March 5 at Cypress Lakes. The Vintage proved too strong winning all of the matches. In the two scratch matches being played by Lyn Banks and Ann Cameron, both were up against players with significantly lower handicaps although Ann was only beaten on the 16th hole. Cheryl Clydsdale lost narrowly as did Annie Woods, whilst Wendy Clift and Kerry McLennan had to give many shots and came up against two players who were too good on the day. The course was in fabulous condition and the team found it a pleasure to play on.

On Monday, March 12, Scone will play Muswellbrook at Hunter Valley Golf and Country Club.

A large number of interested members and visitors were treated to a site inspection of the new golf course on March 5. The project manager and site manager explained the construction to this point, and the requirements to complete the works. Although not in recognized golfing attire, a few lucky players had a tee shot on the new par 3 8th hole with Tony O’Neill winning the nearest the pin! The members are grateful to all involved for making this visit possible.
