ON a heavier golf course after the welcome rain this week, the Scone golfers played an 18 Hole Stableford for the Field Family Trophy on Saturday, March 25.

The bigger hitters were amongst the best scores with the winner Simon Groom having an excellent round of  two over par to have 40 points.

This enabled him to win the overall prize on a countback from Adam Russell who won C Grade.

The A Grade winner was Brenan Reeves with 38 points to also win on a countback from Gordon Halliday.

B Grade was won by Adrian Fuller with 39 points and he too edged out Tony O’Neill on a countback.

Balls went to the above players plus Steve Morse 37, Phil McGuirk, Mark Hayes 36, Clayton Rogers, Jeff Harrington and Tony Pringle all on 34.

The NTP’s were won by Simon Groom 1.15 metres on the 2nd / 11th and by Mick Alsleben 1.65 metres on the 8th / 17th.

In the ladies 18 Hole Stableford, Yvonne Palmer showed the benefits of regular golf having 36 points to be the winner of the Scone RSL Group prize.

On Sunday in the social 9 Hole Ambrose Cliff Cooper, Yvonne Palmer, Liz and Paul Smart were the winners narrowly with 27 and 1/8th.

On Saturday, April 1 the men will play an 18 Hole Stroke / Stableford for the Scone RSL Group Monthly Mug.

It is also the first round of the President’s Trophy.

Round 1 of the Kevans Knockout needs to be played by April 15.

On Thursday, March 23 the ladies played an 18 Hole Stableford for June Jukes’ Trophy.

The majority of the players found the course more difficult after the rain, except it seems for the winner and runner up.

Lyn Banks had a fine round of 40 points and Marie Murray 36 points.

Lyn also won the NTP on the 17th.

Balls went to those players plus June Jukes, Joan Shaw 29 and Judy Carmody, 28 points.

The Scone Ladies Open event has received a good number of entries with over 30 visitors from around the Hunter Valley, Merriwa, Mudgee and Quirindi being involved on Thursday, March 30.

The third round of the HRDGA ladies pennant will be played at The Vintage on Monday, April 3 with the Scone team playing Branxton.
