TWO rounds of the Scone Golf Club Men’s Championships were played on October 15 and 16 and there were some very good scores returned over the weekend.

With a drier course many of the players found the going a lot easier, but windy conditions on Sunday caused difficulty for some.

On Saturday the winner of the Bill Pumpa Trophy was Troy Collison who had a fine 67 nett.

Runner up was David Adams one shot behind.

Proof of the conditions is that 72 nett or better, was required to win a ball.

Those players were: Troy Collison 67, David Adams, Lindsay Hodge, Kevin Thompson 68, John Murray, Mick Alsleben, Terry Winser 69, Gordon Halliday, David Druce, Tony O’Neill, Paul Smart 70, Tom Thompson, Mark Hayes 71, Damien Collison, Tony Pringle, Rod Spratt, C. Reily and Les Cottam 72 nett.

The NTP’s were won by Tony O’Neill 1.25 metres on the 2nd / 11th, and by Gordon Halliday 4.51 metres on the 8th / 17th.

In the scratch events Mac Dawson and Mick Alsleben both had 75, with Simon Groom one back on 76.

In B Grade David Druce on 82 led Troy Collison and Tony O’Neill on 83, whilst in C Grade David Adams, 87 had a two shot lead over Lindsay Hodge and Kevin Thompson.

On Sunday the prizes were donated by Jim Elder for three grades.

Alan Wood had the round of the day with a blistering 63 nett (79 scratch) to win B Grade and take a good lead in the overall nett event.

Mac Dawson had another good round of 73 to have 70 nett and win A Grade.

Tom Thompson won C Grade with a fine 71 nett. Again players needed a low score to win a ball and they went to: Alan Wood 63, Wayne Hedley 68, David Druce, Mac Dawson 70, Tom Thompson 71, Adam Russell 72, Clayton Rogers, Red Palmer, Trevor Wilson 73, Troy Collison, Simon Groom and Brad Hockley 74 nett.

After two rounds of the championships Mac Dawson leads the championship by six shots from Simon Groom.

David Druce with two 82’s, has a three shot lead to Alan Wood in B Grade, and in C Grade David Adams has a two shot buffer to Lindsay Hodge.

In the Seniors, Mick Alsleben has a good lead of nine shots to David Druce. The overall nett is close with Alan Wood enjoying a three shot advantage over David Druce and Troy Collison.
