There was big field for golf at Scone on Saturday, December 17 for the annual “Ham and Spam” day sponsored by Sandy Lettice and Tom Hagan.

On a heavier course after the welcome rain, and in windy conditions Jeff Harrington had the round of the day to record 42 points for his great round of 2 under par. He won the overall prize for the day.

The Ham and Spam grade winners all had 39 points and went home with hams.

A Grade went to Mick Reynolds, B Grade to David Druce and C Grade to Scott Lye.

The less fortunate golfers for the day were Justin Smart, Jim Elder and David Bradshaw who each took home the Spam.

The NTP’s were won by Paul Smart on the 2nd / 11th at 1.72 metres and he made the birdie, whilst the 8th / 17th was won by John Roe 4.10 metres.

The ball winners were: Jeff Harrington 42, Scott Lye, David Druce, Mick Reynolds, John Roe 39, Col Solway, George Davidson 37, Derek Field, Paul Smart, Steve Morse 36, Scott Shann, Greg Lawrence, Graham White, Brad Hockley, Mick Alsleben 35 and Greg Hopkins 34 on a countback.

In extra entertainment , Scott Lye, Paul, Justin and Drew Smart stole the show with their festive shirts for the day!

In the ladies 18 Hole Stableford Lyn Banks had the best round of 32 points to be the winner.

In coming weeks the events scheduled are Saturday December 24 18 Hole Stableford, Scone RSL Group Trophy and on Saturday, December 31 Captain Ross Banks will sponsor an Individual Stableford in conjunction with a “Mystery” 2 Ball.

Players won’t know who they have been randomly teamed with until all scores have been entered!

The Wednesday Red Tee Challenge only required a score of 25 points to be amongst the winners this week. The first three prizes went to Col Solway, Brad Hockley and David Murray, and in fact there were 6 players requiring a countback on 25!

In the ladies 9 Hole Stableford on Thursday, December 15 it was good to see the return of June Jukes and Joan Shaw to golf, and they both won balls with 21 and 19 points.

Sarah Brooks won the Kerv Café voucher with a fine 22 points which included a tap in birdie for a 2 a 5 on the 11th hole!

The ladies will recess until January 12 with play on the front 9 for a McDonalds Café voucher.

Lyn Banks ventured to Stonecutters Ridge Golf Course in western Sydney on Wednesday, December 13 for the State playoff for the Golf NSW Medal.

On the challenging but superbly presented Greg Norman designed course, she had 78 nett to finish 7th out of 16 in Division 1, after play in extreme wind and heat.

On New Year’s Day there will be a social 4 person Ambrose which is open to all.

A big afternoon is expected as this year the “Keg Trophy” will be sponsored by Joel Woods and Graham White with the winning team to receive a keg of beer.
