NEW GOLF COURSE TOUR – By Lyn Banks

Great interest regarding the new Scone golf course is being expressed by members and others in the local community. Construction of the re-designed Scone golf course is progressing as planned with opening of the new course expected around mid-year.

A site inspection of the current progress has been arranged for Monday March 5 and all interested people in the community are welcome. Anyone who wishes to attend needs to register at Scone RSL Club reception by Thursday, March 1. Mandatory clothing requirements for the site visit are enclosed shoes and a high-viz vest which will be provided for those who do not have one.

Following the site inspection the Project Manager will outline the work to be done to complete construction. This will be followed by a presentation on the maintenance requirements for the new course, and information for members on the proposed arrangements for the annual subscription for 2018/19.

The schedule will be as follows: 4.45pm: Assemble at the car park at Scone Sporties; 5pm: Visit to the new course conducted by the Site Manager; 6pm: Sausage sizzle; 6.30pm: Project Manager’s progress report; 6.45pm: Requirements for course maintenance; 7pm: Annual Subscription 2018/ 19 & general discussion; 7.30pm: Conclusion.

The Scone lady golfers have returned for their 18 hole season with an Ambrose being played at Aberdeen course on Thursday, February 22. A good field turned out for the gentle start to the year’s golf with many returning from a significant layoff. The best result was by Annie Woods, Judy Carmody and Narelle Rutter who had 67 nett to win the Cheryl Clydsdale Trophy. Balls went to these players plus Cheryl Clydsdale, Noreen Marshall and Trish Dunnill.

On Thursday, March 1 the Scone ladies will play an 18 Hole Stroke for the first Monthly Medal and Golf NSW Medal round. It will be kindly sponsored by Melanie’s Jewellers and the venue will be Muswellbrook Golf Course.

The ladies also commenced the Hunter River District Pennant season with the first match being played at Cessnock against Branxton on February 26. The team of Lyn Banks, Wendy Clift, Kerry McLennan, Narelle Rutter, Judy Carmody and Noreen Marshall had a very wet drive to the venue. The matches were declared drawn after a few holes as the course became unplayable. In round 2 Scone will play The Vintage at Cypress Lakes on Monday March 5.

Meanwhile in men’s golf the Senior pennant team will next meet Dungog at Singleton on Sunday March 4. The three fourball teams will be Ross Banks & Tom Thompson, Sean Constable & George Davidson and Mick Alsleben & Geoff Ferguson.
