Scone Golf Report Jan 25 – 29

IT was a very hot day for golf at Scone on Saturday, January 28.

A good field contested the Kevin Bailey Building Trophy with the winner being decided on a countback.

Justin Smart had 43 points in the stableford competition and edged out David Druce who had the same score.

Third prize went to Adam Russell who had 40 points.

The NTP on the 2nd / 11th was won by Jeff Harrington, 4.7 metres and on the 8th / 17th by Greg Hopkins, 3.23 metres.

Again, a good score was required to win a ball and these went to: Justin Smart, David Druce 43, Adam Russell 40, Adrian Fuller 39, Jeff Harrington, George Campbell 38, Trevor Wilson, Paul Smart, Jim Elder, Tom Thompson and Charlie Manning all on 37, with the last ball going to Mark Hayes on 36 points.

At the conclusion of two rounds of the Summer Shield, George Campbell leads on 80 points from David Druce on 78.

With the best three out of four scores to count, a number of players are still in the running with rounds 3 and 4 to be played on February 11 and 25.

Saturday, February 4 will be an 18 Hole Stroke / Stableford for the Scone RSL Group Monthly Mug.

Entries will close for the Snyman Knockout on this day also.

The Hunter River District Senior Pennant season commenced on Sunday January 29.

There will be seven rounds in their division with each round being played as three fourball handicap matches.

The team travelled to Cessnock and had a win over Murrurundi 2 -1.

John Roe and George Campbell won on the 18th as did Col Solway and Mark Hayes.

On Sunday, February 5 the team plays Branxton at Cypress Lakes.

There were forty six keen golfers for the annual Australia Day social 9 hole 4 person Ambrose event.

The winners were team Watson, Nick, Josh and Tim, who along with Josh Adams had 27 & ½ nett.

The runners up were Tom Hagan, Justin and Kenny Apthorpe and Hayden Topliss who had 28 & ½ nett.

The next social day will be on Sunday, February 26.

As usual a high score was required to be amongst the prizes in the Wednesday 9 Hole Red Tee Challenge.

Winners this week were: Mitch Casson 28 points, Mick Alsleben 27 points and George Campbell 26 points.

In ladies golf, rounds in February will played on the back 9 on Thursdays.

On February 2, play will be for Royal Hotel Café prize and then The Nook on February 9.

The 18 hole season is programed to commence on February 23.

The Scone Golf community has been deeply saddened by the passing of member Noel Leckie and extend their condolences to Julie and the family.
