Scone Golf Report: July 20-23, 2017

VERY windy and gusty conditions were endured during round one of the Scone Golf Club ladies championships on Thursday July 20.

Annie Woods had the round of the day with 68 nett to win the Scone RSL Group Trophy, visitor Helen Goard was the runner up in the daily event with 70 nett and apart from these two players most of the field found the conditions difficult which reflected in the scores.

The ball winners were Annie Woods 68, Helen Goard 70, Julie Leckie 74, Pam Manning, Kellie Tarrant 75, Kerry McLennan 77, Lyn Banks 78 and Yvonne Palmer 79 nett, Julie Leckie also won the NTP on the 17th.

Round two of the championships was played on Sunday July 23, after starting in crisp weather the wind developed during the round.

The winner of the Scone Newsagency Trophy was Jo Brown who had 73 nett and Trish Dunnill was the runner up with75 nett.

These two players won balls along with Kathy Robinson, Pam Manning 76, Lyn Banks, Julie Leckie 77 and Yvonne Palmer 78, Jo Brown also won the NTP on the 17th.

In the championships Lyn Banks extended her lead over Julie Leckie to seven shots, whilst in Division two Pam Manning had two consistent rounds to be six ahead of Trish Dunnill.

In Division Three Annie Woods had a great first round to help her have a comfortable lead from Yvonne Palmer, the nett event standings are very close with four players within two shots, Julie Leckie and Annie Woods are on 150, Pam Manning 151 and Jo Brown 152.

The final round will be played on Thursday July 27.

On Saturday July 22 the men played the Three Man Ambrose Championship for Gary Leake, Bob Johnston and Chris King’s Trophy.

The scratch winners of the event, which is in its 30th year of play, were Justin Smart, Paul Smart and David Bradshaw who had 64.

The nett winners were David Druce, Trevor Wilson and Brodie Wilson who had 58 and ½.

The ball winners were: David Bradshaw, Paul Smart and Justin Smart 57½, Trevor Wilson, Brodie Wilson and David Druce 58½, Matt Langan, Red Palmer and Ross Banks 59½, Clayton Rogers, Charlie Manning and Kevin Thompson 60½, Sean Constable, Scott Reid and Tom Thompson 61 nett.

The NTP’s were won by Geoff Barton at 0.36 metres which also won him a jackpot of 5 balls on the 2nd/11th, and by Trevor Wilson on the 8th/17th 4.94 metres.

On Sunday July 23 the Red Tee Challenge 9 hole competition winner was Sean Constable 23 points with  2nd to Guy Wilkinson 22 points.

Players supported Merriwa men’s open on Sunday July 23 with Scott Lye being runner up in the C Grade stableford with 38 points.

It will be a big weekend of golf ahead with a novel 18 Hole Irish Foursomes being played on Saturday July 29, this is open to all members and pairs can be men’s, ladies or mixed.

This will be followed on Sunday July 30 by the last Scone Men’s Open to be played on the current course, a good field is already entered but spaces are still available.
