Scone Ladies enjoyed a good turn up for our Tuesday Social Nine Holes with 10 players heading down the fairways in fine weather (again!!). The Ladies Tuesday golf is not only focused on the usual suspects out for some practice and good chat, but we are also using the day to recruit new players who wish to either learn or return to golf without the pressure of serious competition.

We are very lucky to have some of our senior members welcoming these players on to the course with beginner tuition and encouragement which will be followed up with professional group lessons by Jason from the Muswellbrook Pro Shop beginning shortly. Our thanks to Dordie Bragg, Sarah Howey and Annie Woods for driving this project to attract new members to our Golf Club and we are thrilled to welcome Geraldine Moses and Kristy Brooks as our inaugural new recruits. So all of you out there wishing to give golf a go please contact any of our lady golf members or just turn up any Tuesday at 9.00am.

On Thursday the ladies played for the Foursomes Championships Trophy and the Trish Dunnill and Ann Cameron Trophy. With seven teams competing the competition was tough with Sue Watts and Jo Brown taking out the 18 Hole Foursomes Scratch Trophy with a round of 94 and also winning the 18 Hole Trish Dunnill and Ann Cameron Nett Foursomes Trophy with a nett 76, the runners up for both these trophies being Jodie Hinde & Julie Leckie with scratch 97 and nett 79. A special congrats to our winners which was a fabulous effort by Sue and Jo, both of whom have played very little golf over the past 2 years, this being only Sue’s second game back. Hopefully the winning feeling will keep Sue returning to the golf course after her recent penchant for lawn bowls! Ball winners of the nett scores were Jodie & Julie, Cheryl Clydsdale & Anne Cameron and Wendy Clift & Sarah Howey.

The scores are probably indicative that we are all still learning to tame our new course which is presenting all sorts of new challenges but never fear, determination will win in the end!!

On a frosty but beautiful Saturday 15 June golfers were out in force playing for the “Was White” Memorial Day at the Scone Golf Club.  This very impressive annual trophy has been contested for more than 40 years and the clear winner was Steven Clydsdale with a very good score of 40 points.  Runner up was Brenan Reeves with 37 points.  Thanks must go to Jack Tilse for sponsoring the event.  Once again the golf course proved the winner, with only 4 players from a field of 47 making the par of 36 points or better.  As well as the winners, balls were won by Mac Dawson and Michael Haynes 36, David O’Donnell, Tim Smith, Clayton Rogers 35, Justin Smart, Tony Pringle and Paul Smart 34 on a countback.   Nearest the pin winners were Tim Smith on 4/13 and Mac Dawson on 8/17.   This competition was also the second round of the Winter Cup.  Clayton Rogers, in a rich vein of form, leads the field by 7 points from Jeff Harrington with Justin Smart one shot further back.  The last round will be played on 29th June in conjunction with the Smart brother’s 2ball 2digit event.  With luck the handicapper will have dealt with Clayton by then.
