Scone Golf Report: March 27- May 1

ON Saturday April 29 at Scone Golf Course the men played an 18 Hole Stableford for the Luck’s Meats and Mick Alsleben Trophy, after a crisp morning the day became very agreeable for golf for the large field.

There were plenty of prizes given and the lucky winners included Tony Pringle who had the round of the day with 46 points to win C Grade, runner up was Trevor Wilson with 43 points which would have won on most other days!

B Grade was won by Jim Elder who had a fine 41 points, with Alan Wood on 40 being the runner up.

The A Grade prizes went to Ross Banks on 39 points and Justin Smart, 37 points.

Three additional prizes were given over the field to these players: Matt Langan 38, David Casson 37 and George Campbell 36, on a countback.

Balls went to all the above players plus: Mick Alsleben, Clayton Rogers, Les Cottam, David Druce, Mark Hayes 36, Adrian Fuller, Joel Woods and Phil McGuirk 35 points.

The NTP’s were won by Adrian Fuller 1.56 metres on the 2nd /11th and Kevin Thompson 3.28 metres on the 8th / 17th.

In the ladies event, Lyn Banks had a splendid round of four over par for 41 points, which included two birdies, to win the Scone RSL Group prize, Annie Woods and Yvonne Palmer were the ball winners.

The Red Tee Challenge 9 Hole Stableford on April 23 was won by M. Radford 24 points with second to Kevin Bailey 23 points.

On Sunday April 30, the prize winners were Dave Murray 27, Joel Harrison 24 and Dan Rebbet 23 points on a countback.

On Saturday May 6 the Scone RSL Group Monthly Mug will be played as an 18 Hole Stroke / Stableford event.

The Hunter River District Mixed Ambrose will be held at Scone on Sunday May 7 with a number of local teams contesting the event, consequently the course will be closed until 1:30pm.

In pleasant golfing conditions the Scone ladies played an 18 Hole Stableford for a Royal Hotel Trophy on April 27, the winner was Julie Leckie who had 36 points and the runner up was Lyn Banks on 34.

The ball winners were Julie Leckie 36, Lyn Banks 34, Jo Brown 33, Pam Manning and Kathy Robinson on 31 points.

In round 1 of the Peter and Marg Marshall singles Knockout Julie Leckie defeated Judy Carmody, Lyn Banks defeated Trish Dunnill, Pam Manning defeated Jo Brown, Sarah Brooks defeated Fiona Groom and there are some further matches to be completed.

On Thursday May 4 the third round of the Golf NSW Medal rounds will be played with the third Monthly Medal for a Melanie’s Jewellers Trophy.

Round 6 of the Hunter River District pennant series was played at Scone on Monday May 1, the host team was up against equal leaders Hunter Valley and came away with a win 4-2.

Wins were recorded by Lyn Banks 3&1; Kerry McLennan 3&2; Kathy Robinson 4&3 and Pam Manning 1 up.

Sue Watts and Julie Leckie lost narrowly 1 down and 2&1 respectively.

All members who assisted in so many ways to make this day a success are sincerely thanked for their efforts.

In a very close contest the final round will be played on Monday May 8 at Muswellbrook.

Scone, who lead the table by one point to The Vintage, and by two points to Hunter Valley, will play Singleton.
