Five rounds have been completed in the Hunter River District Men’s Senior Pennant golf series. On Sunday, March 3 Scone defeated Branxton 2-1 at Cessnock. Mick Alsleben & Red Palmer won 2 & 1, Ross Banks & George Davidson won 5 & 4 whilst Charlie Manning & David Druce lost 2 & 1. Prior to this the team had a win over Kurri 2-1, a squared match against Denman, losses to Hunter Valley 2-1 and to Aberdeen 2-1.

Scone has a bye on Sunday, March 10 and the concluding round is at Kurri against Murrurundi on March 17. The best the team could finish if results go their way is in second place, which would allow progress to the finals.

The ladies Hunter River District Pennants for 2019 started on Monday, February 25 at the challenging Cessnock Golf Course. Unfortunately the team went down narrowly 3½ to 2½ to Cypress Lakes. Good wins were had by Lyn Banks and Julie Leckie whilst Dordie Bragg had a square. Annie Woods and Judy Carmody went down narrowly whilst Cheryl Clydsdale was defeated by a strong player who was too good in the handicap match play.

Round 2 was played at Hunter Valley against Cessnock on Monday, March 4. In hot conditions the match was squared with three wins each. Dordie Bragg had a good win as the number two scratch player and two of the handicap matches were won by Cheryl Clydsdale and by Jodie Hinde in her first pennant game. Lyn Banks was defeated on the 18th by a lower marker in the number one scratch match, and Julie Leckie also went down narrowly on the 17th. Kathy Robinson had to give lots of shots and also was beaten.

On March 11 Scone travel to Singleton to play The Vintage who are leading the competition having had two wins.

In touring golf, a group of Scone ladies played at Hawks Nest in a two day event on March 4 and 5 with Judy Carmody having two good rounds but not featuring in the prizes. Previously, Julie Leckie and Annie Woods were both amongst the prize winners at Waratah Open Day on February 26, with Julie winning the nett over the field and Annie being runner up in the scratch in Division 2. Dordie Bragg, Lyn Banks, Julie Leckie and Jodie Hinde will play a team event at the resort course Kooindah Waters, Wyong on March 8. Local events are looming with the Upper Hunter Vets Week of Golf from March 18-22 at Muswellbrook, followed by ladies open days for Branxton on March 26 and Aberdeen on April 10.
