Plenty of run on the fairways resulted in some very good scores again this week at Scone Golf Course.

On Saturday, May 13, the men played an 18 Hole Stableford competition for the Scone RSL Group Trophy. The A Grade winner was Ross Banks who had 40 points. C grade was also won with 40 points by Tom Thompson on a countback from Trevor Wilson. Paul Smart won the B Grade prize with 39 points.

Balls were won by these players and Steve Morse 39, Kevin Thompson 38, and visitors Greg Newman 39 and Bill Yuille 36 on a countback.

The NTP on the 2nd / 11th was won by Ross Banks 1 .09 metres and on the 8th / 17th by Adrian Fuller at 2.34 metres.

In the ladies 18 Hole Stableford, visitor Sharon Constable had the best score with 44 points to win the Scone RSL Group prize. Yvonne Palmer will make another impact on her handicap as she had 42, likewise Kerry McLennan who had 40, both winning balls.

The Red Tee Challenge on Sunday resulted in a win for David Walters who had 28 points with a fine round of 2 under par. Anyone can have a game in this weekly event with cards to be returned by 4pm.

Next weekend the men golfers will experience some different formats of play. On Saturday, May 20 an 18 Hole Four Person Ambrose will be played for the Les Cottam, Geoff Ferguson, George Campbell and Lindsay Hodge Trophy. On Sunday May 21 the Foursomes Championships will be played over 18 holes in three grades.

On Thursday, May 11 Pam Manning won the Doncaster Bistro prize with 41 points but Narelle Rutter was close behind on 39. Noreen Marshall on 34 points also won a ball, whilst Lyn Banks won the NTP on the 17th. The Ann Cameron & Cheryl Clydsdale Trophy was deferred. On Thursday, May 18, the ladies will play an 18 Hole Stableford for a Royal Hotel Trophy. This week some of the Scone ladies will be touring with players attending the Denman Open and the NSW Ladies Veterans Championships at Nelson Bay.

The Holden Scramble is fast approaching to be played on Sunday, June 4 with a shotgun start at 11 am. This year it is an Open event but handicap conditions apply. A nomination sheet is on the golf noticeboard. Players might also like a game on the sand greens of Murrurundi with the playing of the Hunter River District men’s championships on May 28.

The AGM and new course information night will be held on Monday May 29 at 6pm.
