Two perfect days for golf prevailed at Scone on June 24 and 25 for the final two rounds of the men’s Club Championships sponsored by JBS Hunter Valley Quality Meats.

The nett scores were excellent on both days.

Mac Dawson won his fourth club championship after a fine round of 71 on Sunday.

It was not easy going however, as after Saturday’s round he was equal leader with Mick Alsleben and one shot ahead of Jeff Harrington.

Simon Groom was a couple further back.

On Sunday, Simon Groom had his round of the tournament with 71 also to finish as runner up, three off the pace.

A good gathering was assembled on the practice green to watch the lead group complete their round.

In B Grade, Brad Hockley played consistent golf with his best two rounds on the weekend.

This enabled him to win his first championship by 11 shots to Tony O’Neill.

In C Grade Damien Collison was the clear front runner in the event, and despite a poor round on Saturday, he stormed back on Sunday to be well ahead of runner up Kevin Thompson.

Damien has now has a B grade handicap! The senior division was won by Mick Alsleben by four shots to Jeff Harrington.

Brenan Reeves was the winner of the Ray Weekes Cup for the best overall nett.

On all four rounds he played better than his handicap to win by five shots to Damien Collison.

The A grade nett was won by Mick Alsleben when he also had three rounds of 71 and a 70, to finish one ahead of Simon Groom who had a great 66 in the last round.

Brad Hockley did the double in B Grade by winning the nett also to Tony O’Neill by three shots.

Likewise, in C Grade Damien Collison also completed the twin win with a big break on Kevin Thompson.

Ross Banks and Jeff Harrington benefited by Mick Alsleben’s earlier nett win as only one trophy can be awarded, with Ross being the winner on a countback in the Senior division.

On Saturday, June 24 round 3 of the Scone Golf Club Men’s Scone Club Championships was played as an 18 Hole Stroke.

It was the Was Whyte and Herb Tilse Memorial Day and Jack Tilse’s Trophy.

Joel Harrison was the scratch winner of the Herb Tilse Trophy when he had 72.

This is a pleasing result as Joel has recently returned to the game.

The best nett score on the day was by Kevin Thompson who had a splendid round of 64 nett to win the Was Whyte Trophy in its 44th year of play.

The grade prizes were won by A Grade, Steve Morse 68, B Grade, Col Solway 69 and C Grade, Lindsay Hodge 66 nett.

The scores obviously indicate the course played relatively easy for many in the field.

Lindsay Hodge won the NTP on the 2nd / 11th with a shot to 0.7 metres which also won him one ball in the jackpot kitty. On the 8th / 17th Joel Woods won the ball with a good shot to 2.53 metres.
