By Stuart Sheldrake.

TODAY there a small yarding of only 493.

It is a quieter time of the year with the weaners finished running, the widespread wet weather and access for trucks to paddocks have collided to mean fewer numbers.

There were very few export cattle and one bull was offered that made 260 cents.

A lighter offering of cows that sold to 10 to 15 cents dearer.

There was a nice offering of grain fed cattle that all sold at strong rates, the better cattle were 6 to 8 cents dearer, while secondary lines and heifer portions were 10 to 15 cents dearer.

Secondary yearling cattle were a big mover and were 20 to 30 cents dearer.

There was a good offering of wider weaner cattle which sold 10 to 20 cents dearer.

With the weather over the last few weeks and with more coming, the market could get stronger in the next 4 to six weeks.

Overall over the next couple of months things will be getting a little quieter.

Farmers may tend to hold onto breeding stock with the rain but we are not out of the woods yet, a lot of the dams aren’t full.

The rain has come a bit late, the growth is going to be slower because of the cold.
