Scone Stock Report: May 17

By Stuart Sheldrake.

TODAY saw an increased yarding of 1,536 cattle, with similar numbers of export cattle as last week.

20160517AngusCowThere was a very good yarding of heavy cows which saw a spike in the market selling from 15 to 20 cents dearer; plainer cows sold for 10 cents dearer but there were not many on offer.

There were no bullocks to quote.

The majority of the yarding were made up of weaner and secondary yearling hiefers and steers.

There were very few grain fed and fat calves penned.

Good lines sold up to firm rates, however the market was quite spasmodic and sold from firm to 10 -12 cents cheaper for more secondary lines.

Good cattle were firm to 5 cents cheaper.

A lot of cattle we are starting to see have lost their bloom heading into winter and the drier conditions.
