Lee Watts, manager of the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre said seniors are often daunted about going online but with some basic skills they gain their confidence and have a lot of fun together.

“We ran eight free classes including a basic introduction to computers, learning about Apps and Facebook and how to stay safe online,” said Mrs Watts.

“We have two computers here dedicated to seniors, so even if they don’t have a computer at home they can come and use ours,” she said.

“It is great when seniors do a class together, because they can all have a laugh; some classics this week included one person who was signing up online an the question was ‘what is you date of birth?’ to which they said, ‘this proves I’m too old to learn my year of birth isn’t on the list’, then we showed them how to scroll down and find their year and they stayed for the rest of the class,” laughed Lee.

“Before we started the class we asked what people can do on a computer and someone sad they could dust them,” she said.

“On the first morning we had another person arrive at 9am for the 10am class, they’d forgotten about daylight saving,” she said.

“It is a fun environment and we like to make sure people leave feeling confident to go online,” Lee Watts said.
