Shooters Still Targeting the Upper Hunter

TODAY John Preston, candidate for the Upper Hunter for the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party has stood down for the upcoming state election.

“It is with a heavy heart today that I announce my resignation as the Shooters Fishers and Farmers Party candidate for the Upper Hunter electorate in next year’s state election,” Mr Preston said.

“I am resigning due to personal reasons so that I can dedicate my time to my family following the premature birth of my first son, John Robert Preston II, in Cebu last Friday,” he said.

“Consequently, I will be regularly travelling to the Philippines to be with my partner Nikki and her family, so it would be unfair to them for me to be absent as a result of next year’s election campaign,” he said.

“The Hunter is a region that is very close to my heart. “Make no mistake, the National Party has taken the Upper Hunter for granted and the work I started has forced them to take notice of their neglect of the region,” he said.

“I will continue to support the Shooters Fishers and Farmers Party’s Upper Hunter campaign, and I look forward to assisting my replacement as soon as a pre-selection can be held,” he said.

“As I will be attending to family commitments outside Australia for the foreseeable future, I will be unavailable for further comment,” John Preston said.

The Party has said they will still be running a candidate in the Upper Hunter, with the same policies and focus for regional Australia and will hold a pre-selection soon.

The Labor Party candidate is Martin Rush and the National Party also have yet to hold their pre-selection.
