ST Mary’s primary school decided they would turn themselves inside out last week to do something fun for mental health awareness.

The movie “Inside Out” explores the characters of Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness inside the head of a young girl who has just moved with her family and is struggling with her conflicting emotions.

“It was a fun way to recognise mental health and so we held an Inside Out day where the kids came to school out of uniform and dressed inside-out if they wanted to,” said Kim Wilson, vice-principal of St Mary’s

“Throughout the day they did activities in their classrooms just based on feelings and emotions and the importance in talking about your feelings and sharing emotions and stories,” she said.

“Then we watched the movie Inside-Out because it talks about the five little characters which are inside everybody’s head with the different emotions people have,” she said.

“Most kids have seen the movie but it was a fun way to bring it all together and so the idea was then to raise money for Where There’s A Will so we raised more than $500 on the day,” Ms Wilson said.
