YESTERDAY the new Starrs Crossing bridge at Timor was opened.

The new 30 metre concrete bridge has replaced an old timber bridge across the Isis river and new road approaches to the bridge have been constructed, extending the bitumen seal along Timor Crawney Road towards Nundle.

Mayor Wayne Bedggood said the new bridge will provide all weather access over the Isis River without the load limitations of the old bridge and removes the need to maintain an additional side track.

“For Council it has been a long road to the completed project, involving technical investigations, planning tenders, construction and of course finding the money to get us to the end of the project,” said Mayor Beddgood.

“Council staff undertook the work on the approaches at either side of the bridge to give drivers a safer, smoother ride,” he said.

“We are very proud of the result and the end product,” Mayor Wayne Bedggood said.

The Starrs Crossing bridge project received federal government funding of $340,000, state government funding of $350,000  and $40,000 from Stoneco Quarries Pty Ltd.

The next bridge replacements will be Sandy Creek Bridge, Timor and Middlebrook Bridge, Middlebrook.
