LEE Watts, manager of the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre was told last night that she is a semi-finalist in the New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory Regional Achievement and Community Awards, in the category of Customer Service.

Lee said she was shocked that someone would spend the time to fill out a nomination.

“You don’t do community services work for a pat on the back, you do it because you love it, but it is a lovely feeling to be nominated for something like this,” said Ms Watts.

“I just enjoy being there for anyone in the community who comes in and needs help of some kind, we can’t always get everything, but we make sure we’ve helped them take a step forward,” she said.

“I’ve had a passion for the community since teaching learn to swim at the age of 16 and I’ve just gone on from there,” she said.

“Each time I’ve changed jobs it has been to help more people and get more done, simple things like bus shelters and ramps are things that need to be done to make sure everyone in the community is looked after and at some time in their life everyone needs help,” Lee Watts said.

In the nomination Lee was described as a worthy nominee:

“Her achievements in improving so much for her community are endless.”

“She has a genuine interest in making people’s lives better, it maybe just reading a story to the children in the Library and seeing the smiles that it brings, it maybe the assistance given to the homeless or a domestic violence victim as they wipe away tears of gratitude, it maybe the young jobseeker that is struggling to understand what is necessary to gain employment that leaves with a sense of worth, it maybe just the ear that is lent to an elderly resident that brings a smile to their face.”

“It doesn’t really matter what is thrown her way to address – her commitment, passion and love for her community are outstanding and goes well beyond what is expected.”

Other semi-finalists include: Delegate Progress Association, Ellen Slater, Fitness In The Park, Jim’s Bean Machine, Morundah Bush Entertainment Committee Incorporated and North Coast Holiday Parks Red Rock.

The finalists will be announced on September 20 – Good Luck Lee!!!
