There was a good yarding of 1,255 head of cattle today.

With good rain over the weekend, 40 mls that fell around Scone and many areas of the northern part of the state, the market jumped for all descriptions.

There was a light penning of cows, which saw good cows and plain cows sell for 5 to 8 cents dearer.

No bullocks to quote.

The majority of the yarding was made up of weaners and yearlings.

Steer weaners were probably 15 cents dearer on last week for good quality types; heifers were probably 5 to 10.

Butcher calves saw limited supply and sold 5 to 6 cents dearer.

Feeder steers sold 10 to 15 dearer.

Yearling heifers took a good spike as well, selling for 10 cents dearer.

The Speckled Park sale on Saturday surpassed all expectations and there is already a sale planned for next year.

The top price bull made $21,000 with bulls selling to a average of $6,600.

Females sold to a top of $11,000 and for an average of $6,100.

There were close to 100 registered bidders, who came from as far as southern Queensland and through to southern Victoria.

The Speckled Park is a Canadian breed which is gaining popularity in Australia.

The breed are known for their edibility, very good carcass animals with a lot of marbling and they have been winning a lot of carcass competitions with steers.

In Australian they are putting them over Brahman cows, hence strong competition out of Queensland.
