THE Roads and Maritime Service has said so far there are fewer submissions for the bypass and rail overpass designs than there were with the previous consultation for the bypass three years ago and they encourage local people to contribute their ideas before the deadline tomorrow afternoon.

Anna Zycki, regional manager for RMS Hunter region, said there are less than 90 submissions to date, but they hope there will be more submissions before the deadline.

“If you have a view on this, if there is an issue you have, we encourage people to get a submission in by the end of this week,” said Ms Zycki.

“We do treat all submissions seriously and it is part of our submissions report that we identify each issue raised in the submissions and we have to address each issue methodically,” she said.

“Some may require further investigation, we might support some options put forward and others we may not be able to, but we then have to explain and document why.

“For the rail bridge we are looking at trends in what people like, why they like a particular option, why they don’t like options and document all of the feedback,” she said.

“That then gives us a direction for what option to do further work on,” Anna Zycki said.

The Council is developing another proposal based on a Kelly street overpass at Elizabeth Park and have an extension of a few days to submit their idea.

“The three options that are there are options we’ve discussed with Council over the years,” she said.

“They’ve now come back to us and said they have other ideas and it’s still at an early stage where we can discuss those options with them.

“We hope out of these design options we get to a resolution on what they actually prefer and what the community prefers and then we’ll move through the same stages as the bypass,” Anna Zycki said.

Making a submission, made easy:

  • Submissions do not have to adhere to a strict form or criteria, simply put forward your ideas, preferences and an explanation of why.
  • Submissions can be short and sweet, a few lines is fine.
  • Include your contact details in the email.
