THE Wicks family came home with the buckles after winning The Triple Crown Buckle Series team penning event last weekend in Grafton with a penning time of 33 seconds for the three cattle.

The Triple Crown Buckle series was hosted by Clarence Valley Team Penning and was a three weekend event with the most consistent teams throughout the first events to make it to the finals.

Veronica Wicks, her son Brendan Wicks and Alf Wicks, brother in law of Veronica teamed up to win the event.

“Alf, Brendan and myself ended up to be the winners and we won the buckles, mine is going on the mantle piece,” Ms Wicks said.

Brendan got engaged on Friday to Madison Hewitt-Brown who was part of the team and ahead in points but was unable to compete in the finals due to injury.

Team penning is a close community and the sport lends itself to be a family friendly sport.

“It’s a good family sport and that’s why we have been doing a bit of travelling, to meet new friends”
