Joan has been a dedicated volunteer at TransCare for four years and gives up her time to drive TransCare clients to appointments, delivers Meals on Wheels and assists with TransCare’s new Wheels to Meals program in Muswellbrook.

“TransCare is very lucky to have an exceptional lady like Joan volunteering for us,” said Alan Gordon, CEO, TransCare.

“She is extremely generous with her time and is well liked by all of our clients because of her whacky sense of humour.”

Joan has lived in Muswellbrook for over 40 years and juggles TransCare commitments around her family life which involves two sons, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Joan has had many jobs over the years including working as a short hand typist, on the family dairy farm in Denman and working for the Department of Child Services.

“I was absolutely thrilled to receive the award,” said Joan Crosby.

“I love volunteering for TransCare, being able to get out and talk to people and help them, I wasn’t expecting to win the award at all and I am so happy that the trophy now takes pride of place in the glass cabinet at home.” Ms Crosby said.

TransCare has approximately 80 volunteers from the Upper Hunter and Muswellbrook Shires who help to provide services including transport to appointments, social support, daily phone calls to check on wellbeing, shopping and the delivery of Meals on Wheels.

“TransCare are always on the lookout for people to help with volunteering,” said Alan Gordon.

“Even if you only have a couple of hours a month, we’d appreciate any time you can provide, our volunteers really enjoy the time they get to spend with our clients who are mostly older locals who have a lot of interesting stories to share.”

The ‘Volunteer of the Year’ Award is given in honour of Pam Moscatt who was Care Coordinator at TransCare for many years before losing her fight with cancer in 2009.

Pam was really pleased when Alan Gordon told her before her passing that the award would be named in her honor.
