Update: Sir Ivan Fire

Filed in Recent News by February 12, 2017

THE New South Wales Rural Fire Service has advised the situation at the Sir Ivan fire ground is changing rapidly.

“The fire is burning to the east of Dunedoo moving in a northerly direction towards Black Stump Way, Leadville and Coolah,” said Paul from NSW Rural Fire Service command.

“It was moving to the east towards Cassilis, but with the southerly it is now moving in a northerly direction,” he said.

“While it is moving north it has threatened Casslis and Merriwa throughout the course of the day and people who are in those areas need to remain vigilant,” Paul said.

The NSW RFS advise people in the area of the following:

  • People who are in the area of the Black Stump Way should seek shelter as the fire front approaches.
  • People in Uarbry, Turill and Cassilis that have not left should also seek shelter as the fire front approaches.
  • If you are east of Cassilis and the path is clear you can leave now towards Merriwa.
  • The Merriwa RSL is open as an evacuation centre.
  • People north of Ulan should move south towards Mudgee if the path is clear and you can go to Club Mudgee or Mudgee Showground if you have animals.
