Upper Hunter Schools Falling Behind

SCONE High School has a maintenance backlog totalling $795,192.92 according to a report from the NSW Education Department.

Labor has highlighted other schools in the Upper Hunter electorate which have fallen behind including:

• Muswellbrook High School: $1,220,110.53;
• Singleton High School: $1,119,532.72;
• Gloucester High School: $736,811.62, and
• Dungog High School: $383,173.31.

The backlog for Scone High School has increased by 34 percent since 2016-2017 year when the backlog was $592,102 and at Singleton High School the backlog has increased by 264 per cent.

The Labor Party claims the backlogging accumulated under the Liberal and National Government during the last eight years.

“The maintenance backlog problem is clear evidence that the Berejiklian Government is focused on vanity projects in Sydney liked the stadiums and scandal plagued Sydney Light Rail,” he said.

NSW Labor Leader Michael Daley has said if he is elected, he will withhold the 2.2 billion dollars that was set to rebuild ANZ Stadium and Olympic Park.

Country Labor candidate Melanie Dagg has also called for the cancellation of the upcoming renovations of Sydney Stadiums in favour of fixing schools.

“I’m passionate about education, health and securing better local services for the Hunter community. This is what Labor will deliver,” she said.
