Veteran’s Golf: August 8

It was especially fitting that Veteran golfer Les Brown won the Bernie Behringer Memorial Trophy on Tuesday, August 8 as Les and Bernie were the best of mates and enjoyed playing together on many occasions and courses. Pam Behringer was present to present the trophy accompanied by her friend, Mrs Clout.

Thank you to Doug Dowell for organising this unique annual par-3 event at Aberdeen each year. Thanks too to President Phil Ledgerwood for his expertise in arranging the shot-gun start and collating the count backs etc.

There were 37 players and Les won with nett 67. Second was Paul Gorman 75 C/B, 3rd Bob Lawman 75 C/B, 4th Bob Thorley 75, 5th Pam de Boer 76 C/B and 6th Bob Fry 76.

Balls went to Milton Reid, Rod Upton and Ross Banks 77, Tommy Thompson and Doug Dowell 79, John Tyrrell 80, George Smith, Di Thorley and Gary Morley 81 and Gerrit de Boer, Christine Smith, Brian Dever, Ken Thornton. Peter Daunton. Graham Turvey and visitor from Singleton Brian Payton all on 82.

The putting wine, kindly donated by Aberdeen Golf Club, was won by Peter Daunton with 38 putts C/B.

The best scratch score of 84 was recorded by Ross Banks. The Bradman trophy, kindly donated by Gary Morley was won by Greg Squires.
