Weaning and Disease Workshop

Filed in Recent News by March 15, 2017

TOMORROW the Local Land Services Hunter is running a workshop on cattle weaning and disease management at the Scone sale yard complex.

Two presenters will be there to give expert advice to local land holders, farmers and other people who are in the cattle industry.

Martin Dunstan will be discussing on farm weaning strategies to assist farmers who want to improve their weaning process through his knowledge and research as a senior development officer of farm systems for Agriculture Victoria.

Jane Bennett is the District Veterinarian for Hunter Local Land Services here in Scone and will be discussing disease management and strategies to assist.

Local Land Services Officer Hayley Taylor said the workshop covers a wide range of issues and can have benefits for all who have contact with the animals.

“It ticks a few different boxes, you have better animals to work with which helps all the way through the production line from birth through to the selling point” Hayley Taylor said.

“It is also related to your occupational health and safety for your farm, your producers, the agents, the feedlots and also to the animals welfare”.

If positive feedback is received from this course Hunter Local Land Services are exploring the idea of running a course on low stress stock handling.

The workshop will run between 1.30pm to 3.30pm tomorrow and lunch is provided.
