Who’s Looking in Your Bin?

THE Upper Hunter Shire Council has hired contractors to look in your bin as part of an audit on the contents of domestic waste and recycling bins in the Shire.

The dumpster diving will start on Monday, August 8 and continue for two weeks.

Mayor Wayne Bedggood said the audit will help guide how Council manages waste.

“The audit will identify what types of recyclable materials and waste the community generates and how much of each category is recovered for recycling or discarded,” Cr Bedggood said.

“Council can then identify the feasibility of enhancing its recycling efforts and the potential for cost savings,” he said.

“When you know what you generate, how much you generate and where you generate it, you will manage waste cost-effectively and in a more environmentally friendly manner,” Wayne Bedggood said.

Collections will take place from the kerbside on the normal collection day.

Households will not be notified which bins will be assessed to avoid changing resident disposal behaviour.
