Winning Streak for Junior League

By Grant Mackay, president of Scone Junior Rugby League

THIS year we again see a repeat of 2015, with teams from the under 6’s right through to the under 16’s competing proudly under the Thoroughbred banner.

Scone Thoroughbreds under 12's are chasing their third premiership.

Scone Thoroughbreds under 12’s are chasing their third premiership.

All teams are fielding two or three teams up to and including the under 11’s.

We have seen the inclusion of the inaugural girls League Tag competition.

Scone was able to field two strong teams in, which I believe will put us in good stead for next year.

The girls represented Scone proudly and have upheld what this great club is all about, sportsmanship, having fun and a willingness to succeed.

With only three weeks left in the regular season, Scone Junior Rugby League (JRL) will yet again feature heavily in this year’s finals, with all but one team from the under 10’s through to the under 16’s set to appear.

Our under 11’s will be looking to take out back to back titles and the under 12’s boys will be chasing three in a row.

Our under 14’s have had an extremely tough season so far, however these boys continue to turn up week after week and work hard on improving their game.

This is what being a Thoroughbred is all about, working hard for your mate and bettering yourself as a team.

These young men are really doing our club proud, stick together and keep it up.

This year will be the under 16’s last year under the Junior League banner and they will be looking to go out on top.

They had a late start to the season due to the representative commitments for quite a few of the boys, but they should be hitting their straps at just the right time.

Both Jock Madden and Harry Duggan will be still riding the high, after going head to head in this year’s Harold Matthews Cup.

Jock and Harry were then selected in the under 16’s NSW team that played as a curtain raiser to State of Origin one in Sydney, with Jock putting in a Man of the Match performance.

The club is hopeful that they will use this experience and lead by example.

Former Thoroughbred Junior Cade Cust is continuing to kick goals.

Cade is now running around in the under 20’s for Manly and just recently made his NSW Cup debut this season.

He continues to do the Thoroughbreds and his family proud.

This is just another example of what it really means to believe in something and Cade certainly has that belief.

The support he is given from his family is second to none, his Grandfather Glenn travels to almost every game to watch Cade follow his dream of making it in the NRL; keep in mind Glenn lives here in Scone.

Off the Field

Scone JRL will be hosting a “Night Out” at the Scone Sporties on July 30.

We are inviting parents, sponsors, supporters and life members to a night out to say thank you for all of their continued support.

There will lucky door prizes and ladies will receive a glass of champagne upon arrival.

We will be holding a silent auction on the night and a raffle in the weeks leading up to the evening, to help raise funds to put back into our local juniors.

Our club strives to give every player an opportunity to fulfil their dreams and aspirations of becoming the next Jonathon Thurston, Sam Burgess or Cade Cust as one of the kids said at the end of last year.

Buy a ticket and come along to support the club that is nurturing the next batch of NRL Stars.
