No previous experience with welding or art is required, just an interest in expressing ideas about rural life.

Women who like their end product can share it with the rest of the community by putting it on display during the Scone and Upper Hunter Horse Festival in May.

Kerri Cone, community services manager for Upper Hunter Shire Council said programme was possible thanks to a $3,000 grant from the NSW Government’s country arts support program and the rural resilience officer for the NSW Department of Primary Industries Carolyn Hayes.

“Sharing stories, thoughts and feelings are essential elements to managing stress and improving the wellbeing of rural communities,” Mrs Cone said.

“The women who participate will have the opportunity to grow, learn and celebrate the richness of their own life experiences through the medium of welding,” she said.

“Providing opportunities for the community through securing grants like CASP is a fantastic outcome,” said Kerri Cone.

The workshop will be held in Gundy on 20 and 21 April 2016, with ten places available.

* Council has since advised the course is full.
