Word to the Bats

Filed in Recent News by February 8, 2016

THIS week’s Word on the Street is for the story Flying Foxes Not on the Radar.

Word on the streetFew people take the time to read the long winded review of environmental factors (REF) documents related to these development projects, but thankfully Cliff Cooper did and found an important omission.

Cliff lives in Kingdon Street and for years has seen the flying foxes migrate through each year and use the area as a nursery, but none were observed when the REF was written for the Roads and Maritime Services.

The bypass will go right over the trees they use and if they are disturbed enough that they decide to move we could have a Burdekin Park scenario in Scone.

Perhaps someone needs to consult the flying foxes on the property they might relocate to.

Let us know if you have a story lead, it could be worth $50 to you: Word On The Street.
