A Current Affair Backs Betty

Filed in Recent News by July 30, 2019

A Current Affair was in Scone today interviewing local icon Betty Shepherd who is fighting against a Council proposal to zone part of her street industrial.

Betty and her husband Archie owned the current land which is proposed to be rezoned, in residential Phillip Street, to industrial for a 24 / 7 diesel mechanic.

Residents spoke to A Current Affair about how the potential rezoning could impact them and questioned why residental land could be rezoned to industrial, when there are so many other vacant industrial lots in the surrounding areas.

Georgie Shepherd, daughter of Betty Shepherd, said it would directly impact their financial livelihood and was glad A Current Affair are giving the residents a voice against the Council proposal.

“I can’t understand why one man can have financial gain, when everyone else in the street, is loosing property value and their life investments,” said Georgie Shepherd.

The A Current Affair story is due to air on Friday, August 2.
