Aberdeen Australia Day Awards 2019

JONATHON McMahon was awarded Aberdeen Young Citizen of the Year and also Upper Hunter Young Citizen of the Year.

Jonathon was school captain of Scone High School in 2018 and was selected as one of eight students to represent the Rotary for the ‘Real Schoolies’ in the highlands of Papua New Guinea. Jonathon assisted the charity Where There’s A Will (WTW) to design a leadership program for 18-24 year olds, was involved with the leadership summit at Muswellbrook for WTW and the Appreciative Inquiry Summit held in 2017 and 2018 and was one of several students who attended a leadership summit in Adelaide in 2017 supported by WTW.

During high school Jonathon was president of the Student Representative Council, leading the Christmas project at Strathearn Village and many other whole school fundraising activities. He was presented with the Long Tan Leadership Award in Year 10. He was part of the Steer Show at the Royal Easter Show and volunteered at the Rotary Club of Scone for a range of fundraising events.

The award recipients in Aberdeen this year included:

  • Young Achiever of the Year – Campbell Hollis
  • Community Group of the Year – Aberdeen Little Athletics
  • Special Award for Outstanding Sports Achievement – U13’s Rugby League Team, St Joseph’s High School
  • Special Award for Outstanding Achievement in Show Jumping – Millie Fisher – represented by Rev Nate Atkinson
