Airspeed Flying Higher in Tamworth

SCONE based Airspeed Aviation remains optimistic of their future in aviation despite an industry downturn and is set to expand in Tamworth.

“Our business in Tamworth is continuing to grow, we started with one pilot and one aircraft in 2015 and now we’ve got three pilots,” said Ben Wyndham, managing director of Airspeed Aviation said.

“What we’re working with Tamworth airport to do is securing Tamworth as our location to grow and grow the business,” he said.

“We could employ two more straight away if we could get more space in Tamworth to accommodate all of our students.

“Delivering service and support to business and government agencies is what we do, and we are hoping that with the opportunity to build these facilities and offer more services we can build Tamworth into a major hub for regional aviation services.

Ben Wyndham sees a bright future for Airspeed Aviation at Tamworth airport, despite aviation dowturn.

“The opportunity to change the regional aviation game is available now, and Tamworth could lead the way.

“We’ve been very fortunate to have such strong support from Tamworth Council, Tamworth Councillors and Mayor Col Murray, I’m very grateful for that.

“I think they can see the value that we bring to the airport that we bring to Tamworth, especially as the only charter operator and the only Australian owned flying school on Tamworth airport.

“We service the locals and local businesses.

“They can appreciate that and I appreciate their support,” he said.

“Scone will always be home to us and the town in which we started, we’ve been here now for coming up to 11 years, we will probably continue to have an ongoing presence here while ever we can contribute to the local economy and the local aviation community,” Ben Wyndham said.

The closure of boarders and no aviation tourism has meant most of Bill Owen’s clients at the Scone based East Coast Aircraft Maintenance have stopped operating.

Private pilots, skydiving, joyflight and outback touring companies have all been heavily impacted by the shut down of borders.

“Fortunately our engine overhaul facility draws clients from all over Australia,” stated Mr Owen.

“With so many of our clients grounded, it is FIFO operators like Airspeed and our engine overhaul clients that make sure we can keep the doors open,” Mr Bill Owen said.
