IN September 2020, doctor’s in Scone were advised the Council planned to sell a residence rented by local doctors and appealed for the decision to be changed.

The purchase of the flats in Scone were the result of grant from the Rural Doctor’s Network in the early 90’s, which was part of a strategy to ensure doctors moving to the area, or providing cover in the short-term had accommodation.

The Rural Doctor’s Association weighed in on the debate explaining it was increasingly difficult to attract doctors to regional areas and lack of accommodation would disadvantage the towns.

Fortunately, the Council reversed their decision to sell the Scone flats, however the doctor’s residences in Murrurundi and Merriwa were already sold.
