Police Pursuit in Murrurundi

A 27 year old unlicensed Broken Hill woman was arrested in Murrurundi yesterday evening after a police pursuit, which began in Blandford at approximately 6pm and is due to appear in Muswellbrook court day on 29 driving offences.

Police were patrolling the New England Highway when they attempted to stop a Great Wall X240 utility.

The driver failed to stop and police began a pursuit, but had to stop their pursuit due to safety concerns.

The ute was later seen parked in a carpark in Little Street, Murrurundi.

Police arrested the driver, who refused to undergo a breath test, took her to Muswellbrook Police Station and charged her with 29 driving offences.

It is alleged the driver had altered her number plates by attaching mailbox stickers, purchased from a hardware store.

The offences included:

  • four counts of dishonestly obtain property by deception,
  • five counts of use unregistrable motor vehicle on road,
  • five counts of use uninsured motor vehicle,
  • five counts of licence expired 2 years or more before,
  • two counts of use vehicle displaying misleading number plate,
  • two counts of use vehicle displaying altered number plate,
  • police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously,
  • drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous,
  • motor vehicle exceed speed > 30 km/h,
  • overtake vehicle when unsafe,
  • refuse or fail to submit to breath test, and
  • goods in personal custody suspected of being stolen.

 

Investigations are continuing.
