THE KEEPER (rated M)

Starring: David Kross, Freya Mavor and John Henshaw

A heartfelt blend of romance and football.

Based on an incredible true story, THE KEEPER follows Bert Trautmann (David Kross, The Reader), a German prisoner of war sent to Northern England at the end of WWII, who went on to become an English Football legend.

While imprisoned at the POW camp he meets Margaret (Freya Mavor, The Sense of an Ending) and her father Jack (John Henshaw, Stan & Ollie, Downton Abbey), the manager of the local football team. Impressed by Bert’s exceptional talent as a goal-keeper, Jack recruits Bert to play for the local team. Despite hostility on and off the field, a love slowly blossoms between Margaret and Bert.

To the outrage of Manchester City fans, many of whom are Jewish, Bert is signed by the club as their new star keeper. Bert’s difficult path to acceptance takes an incredible turn when he wins over thousands of supporters by taking the club to victory in the 1956 FA Cup Final and playing on despite breaking his neck.

The Keeper is an extraordinary love story between a young English woman and a German PoW, who together overcome prejudice, outrage and tragedy.

Tickets can be purchased online, from Hunt A Book in Scone or at the door.
