Fantastic Funding For Men’s Shed

THE Upper Hunter Men’s Shed is building a new storage bay for recycled timber, after they secured $7,155 worth of funds from the Australian Government National Shed Development Programme.

The good news was delivered yesterday, with the Merriwa Men’s Shed also receiving $1,300, for electrical installations and a new water urn.

Greg Newling President of the Upper Hunter Men’s Shed said the group is excited to extend the current shed, as the timber used in many of their restoration projects was becoming “a bit of a trip hazzard”.

“We want to be able to get it up off the floor and mount it and have somewhere secure to put it, especially with the weather at the moment,” Mr Newling said.

“Most of the stuff we do is restoration, people bring things in and we fix them,” he said.

“What goes on in our lunchroom is mainly what the Men’s Shed is all about, getting together and having a good time  and if you can get out to the Shed and take part in one of the projects, that’s a bonus,” he said.

Mr Newling said the group is pleased to be back after the COIVD-19 break and hopes to start construction of the shed’s storage extension soon.

“There are some parts we can do ourselves and then a Tamworth company who built the original shed will do the major part,” Mr Newling said.

“It’s all been passed by Council, it’s just a matter of organisation and when they can get down, well get it done,” he said.

The Men’s Shed currently has 40 members and welcomes anyone in the Shire to join.

“It’s mainly about men’s health and having someone to talk to if you’ve got a problem,” said President Greg Newling.
