Fire Update – Highway Closed Near Whittingham

THE New England Highway, near Whittingham, south of Singleton is closed in both directions due to fire.

LiveTraffic is has issued advice for motorists to avoid the area. The area impacted, shown on their map, is from Whittingham to the connection with the Golden Highway.

Update 2:08pm: The Singleton Shire has further advised there was a truck accident at the intersection of the New England Highway and Golden Highway which caused a grass fire at Whittingham.

Fortunately, there are no fires in the Upper Hunter Shire Council area at this stage.

The closest fires are:

  • Nundle where a fire has burnt through 1310 hectares, but is under control, and
  • Whittingham, south of Singleton, near the New England Highway where a bush fire and a grass fire are categorised as out of control, but the size of fires are not reported.

Update 2:12pm: There is also a grass fire near Bimbadeen Street, Muswellbrook. 2:34pm: NSW Fire and Rescue have advised it is a 200 metre, grass fire within a rail corridor and is not impacting on housing. Rural Fire Service and Police are in attendance. 

UPDATE 9:30pm: There is a grass fire out of control near Bridgman Road, Singleton affecting approximately 1 hectare.
